About us
Silkens entered our life when long time friend, Gill Grist of Endevor Hounds, stopped overnight on her way back home having collected Fira (Starcastle Hounds Firefly) from Sweden. Still a very young lady, Fira strode straight in and made the sofa her own. Fira was the first Silken to grace British soil and from that moment we were smitten.
When Fira had her second litter, Gill provided the opportunity for us to have Endevors Dancing Diva (Diva). The rest is history.
Prior to Silkens, Sue owned, bred and showed Borzoi and Afghan, her pride being Ch. Allahabad Karnak Benaries. Taking a break from the show ring Sue was able to enjoy more time with our horses. Whilst the horses continue to play an important part of our life, we are also dedicated to this delightful breed.
We have bred a couple of litters following much research and careful planning, each bringing a new blend of bloodlines and genetic diversity to the UK gene pool. Working alongside other like minded breeders, our aim has, and continues to be with regard to the careful development of this still relatively young breed, producing hounds which are fit for purpose, with emphasis on conformation, type, health and temperament. We prefer to be known for the QUALITY of our hounds rather than the QUANTITY.
It is all to easy to become captivated by this breed and our band of Silkens has grown since 2007. Involvement with the breed has brought new friendships both here and overseas, having been fortunate enough to travel to the USA on a number of occasions to attend the annual Silkenfest Specialty Show hosted by the ISWS, as well as participating with European Club events travelling to mid and Southern Germany as well as Slovenia. In the UK we have taken part in the UKSWC events from Devon to Scotland, Boston to Gower and more locally Kent. Racing events have been equally far flung!
We had a quiet year in 2015 event wise due to our summer litter, not wishing to take our other silken's out and about until much later, post puppy vaccinations. In 2016, Freya joined our kennel, imported directly from Kristull Silken Windhounds. Her genetically diverse bloodlines were valuable addition. In 2017 our home bred boy earned his ISWS Championship title, the first UK bred male to do so, and in 2019 he sired the 'Cocktail' litter. Fast forward to September 2021 (by-passing the Covid years) when our Canadian import (jointly owned with Endevor) arrived followed swiftly by our Double F litter whelping early October.
Both Sue and Justine are active members of the UK Silken Windhound Club and the International Silken Windhound Society. Indeed, Sue has been involved with UKSWC since it's foundation, and alongside other key committee members has been instrumental in the initiation of our first UK events. Justine is currently the ISWS International Delegate.
